4 MRT Stations With Family Friendly Activities Around Them

The New Year’s around the corner, but right now, it’s the December school holidays! If you’re looking for something to do during the latter half of December, we’ve got a quick list for you. Best of all, they’re just a short walk away from the MRT stations!

1. Woodleigh MRT: The Arena

The Arena is a sports park that’s home to Café Football (partially owned by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville!), and it’s got a bit of a history behind it – the building itself used to be the old Public Utilities Board (PUB) Recreation Club and its refurbishing only finished early in 2017.

It’s home to a bunch of fitness studios and football pitches – one fitness studio that stands out is the huge Indoor Climbing Gym run by Climbers Laboratory.

Climbing is great for kids because they’re natural climbers, flexible, light, and fearless! There are 3 main ways to climb there:

Top Roping: the climber will need a belayer to help them out, and they’ll be using a rope and harness to climb, and the climbing wall is much higher than the others.

Bouldering: climbing without the use of ropes or harnesses, the wall that they climb is a lot lower, and the placement of hand and footholds are more of a puzzle for the climbers to figure out.

Augmented Climbing: now this one is new, and it’s fun for all ages! You’re climbing on a short wall with a screen of a game being projected onto the wall – it can be a game like pong, where players hands and feet are the paddles and they’ll hit a glowing ball that’s bounced between them.

The Arena is located at 48 Woodleigh Park, Singapore 357844, and to find out more about Climbers Laboratory, visit their site here and their Facebook profile here!

2. Farrer Park MRT: City Square Mall

There’s almost always some kid friendly event that’s happening at City Square, whether it’s within the mall itself or just outside the mall! The mall itself has tons of food, retail stores, and is family friendly for bubs, toddlers, and kids alike.

Pretty much anything that you’re looking for can be found in the shopping centre – need some toys? Toys”R”Us is there! Sports goods? Decathlon! Movies? Golden Village! Food? There’s food on every floor!

And if you want to bring out the genius in your child with fun baking and crafting activities, Genius R Us has you covered! Their workshops are tailored to bring out your child’s innate talents through the process of creative learning and self-discovery.

They’ve been featured in the media multiple times, and have a long list of satisfied corporate customers (Cordlife, DBS Bank, Ikea, Ministry of Education, and Unilever are just some).

City Square Mall is located at Farrer Park MRT (NE8, Exit I), and Genius R Us can be found at #07-08 within the mall. For more information on Genuis R Us, visit their site here!

3. Raffles Place, Downtown, and Bayfront MRT: Prudential Marina Bay Carnival

I’m sure you’ve heard about it, and you parents might be even more interested than your kids to pay this Carnival at the Promontory a visit! Occupying an area that’s around three-and-a-half football fields large, this huge carnival is a throwback to the heydays of Uncle Ringo (but a super-sized version).

The carnival opened its doors on Dec 15 this year, and will be entertaining us until Apr 1, 2018. More than 40 rides and games are available for us to play with, and over 25 food stalls to keep our bellies full will be there for us in the carnival that’s nicely situated in our business district.

Food, music, and games await you and your family!

The carnival’s opening hours are from 4pm to 11pm daily, except on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, where they’ll be open from 3pm to 2am.

4. Changi Airport MRT: Changi’s Mystical Garden

Our airport is as much for travellers as it is for us! I remember going there as a child and watching planes fly off from the viewing gallery in T1 and T2, and after that was done, we would always head to Swensen’s for lunch or dinner (fish and chips, always).

However, we didn’t really have anything as grand as Changi’s Mystical Garden in the past! Changi Airport and Sanrio teamed up to give visitors a pretty magical holiday season at T3 – there’s a huge Sanrio centrepiece at the T3 Departure Hall with a gazebo and treehouse as part of it.

And it’s not just a centrepiece that’s rife with photo opportunities, there are also two different shows there: a Drone, and a Light and Snow Show!

The timings are:
• Drone Show, 7:30pm and 9pm daily
• Light and Snow Show, 3pm and 5pm daily

There’s also something specifically for your little ones – a Sanrio-themed playground! It can be found at T3 B2, and is open from 10am to 10pm daily.
